Michael McVeigh was born and educated in Dundee, studying Drawing and Painting at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art from 1977 to 1982. Today, he lives and paints in Edinburgh. Michael paints both figurative and landscape pictures. He works in oil, acrylic, watercolour and etching. Michael’s paintings evoke social observation and depict everyday life in Scotland and the Scottish people but they have the quality of the extraordinary about them. His work is reminiscent of the northern European traditions of closely-observed detail such as we find in Bruegel, for instance, as well as the narrative art of the late Mediaeval Italian artistic tradition with its urban and architectural constructs. Michael draws together his influences to create paintings of Scottish scenes and situations which appear as a synthesis of real life observations and his own artistic imagination. |
