Douglas Davies grew up and was educated in Edinburgh. He studied Ceramics and Glass design at Edinburgh College of Art followed by a Postgraduate Scholarship in Ceramics and a Travelling Scholarship to Italy. After a period spent teaching and then lecturing in Ceramics at the Glasgow School of Art, Douglas Davies became a full-time potter and painter. Since 2000, he has been a full-time painter.

Working chiefly in acrylic, inks and pencil on paper, Douglas’ work encompasses both the landscapes of the Scottish Borders and the seascapes around France where he frequently spends time, as well as the still life. Working from his studio in the Borders, where he also runs his own gallery, Douglas has had many solo exhibitions both in the UK and abroad. Douglas Davies is an Elected Member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW).
