Trevor Leat makes willow sculptures and functional pieces from willow which he grows and harvests in Galloway. Trevor cultivates a number of Salix varieties. Each variety has its own function and place in his designs.

Trevor was born in London and educated in Hertfordshire. He moved to Galloway, South West Scotland in 1974 where an interest in Romany culture led to a meeting with Cumbrian basketmaker John Rome, who taught him basketry techniques. Trevor then lived for ten years amongst crofters and fishermen on the Hebridean island of Eigg, where he specialised in the art of making fishing creels.

Trevor returned to Galloway in 1990 where he has continued to develop his craft. He now makes a wide range of baskets, hampers and creels which embrace the tradition but also have a contemporary appeal. In addition, he makes arbours, garden seats and living willow sculpture.

In recent years Trevor has become involved in making large sculptural designs for theatrical performance, carnival and fire festivals using willow and other materials.
