Peter Archer uses traditional tools and methods to make seemingly simple wooden bowls from reclaimed temperate hardwoods, mainly ash and sycamore, in his studio in East Sussex. The shape and grain of the bowl will determine how the surface is finished: sometimes carved to emphasise the particular qualities of a piece of wood and sometimes to deliberately react against those qualities. In 2005, Peter was commissioned to make a piece to be presented to Tony Blair at the Threadneedle/Spectator Parliamentarian of the year awards.
