David Stuart Brown was born and brought up in Glasgow. For over twenty years he has worked in metal, mainly copper and pewter, incorporating coloured stained glass and cabochons to produce mirrors, clocks and boxes that are quintessentially Scottish in style and character. Some of David’s designs hark back to the stylistic influences of Art Nouveau: his wall mirrors and wall planters, for example, with their longitudinal proportions which are reminiscent of the designs of Charles Rennie Macintosh. While David’s other designs, his clocks and pedimented wall mirrors have an architectural quality which is reminiscent of both mediaeval lantern and structures and early metalwork.
