Dianne King is an award-winning Scottish jeweller. She trained as a sculptor and art historian and lectured at Edinburgh College of Art for 25 years before being inspired to make jewellery. She draws on a wide variety of visual and conceptual sources, among them art history, literature and natural forms.

King returns to Broughton Gallery with a new series of work, entitled Sea Stories, which is partly inspired by a recent trip to Orkney but also by her childhood memories of Neil Gunn's book, The Silver Darlings.

King has always loved beach-combing and likes to be within easy reach of the sea. The forms of her new work suggest sails, boats, fish and shells. The work combines unusual semi-precious stones with silver and occasional gold inlay. King sees this work as a lament for the Scottish fishing industry as the gold inlay often features one tiny fish shape.
