Tim Gee was born in 1958. After twenty years working as a chef, he touched clay for the first time in 1996 and, within four years, he had completed a degree in Applied Arts and set up a workshop and within the next three years had become a full-time potter. Today, Tim Gee makes elegant, translucent porcelain bowls. Each piece results from a laborious process of throwing, decorating, firing, glazing and sanding. Tim’s surface textures were originally inspired by naturally occurring translucency in leaves, waves, cobwebs. Over time many of these have been abstracted beyond easy recognition. Porcelain is a challenging material to work with particularly when thrown finely but it rewards the meticulous craftsman with translucency and a fine smooth surface. |
