The landscape has always featured in Peter Clough’s work in one form or another, and over the last few years he has become increasingly intrigued by relationships of earth and sky, changing weather, textures and colours and man’s interaction with his environment.

Peter uses porcelain: pure porcelain for smaller pieces and a sandy porcelain, which he developed, for larger work. His pots are mainly thrown but some are handbuilt. All are decorated with reference to his local Yorkshire landscape.

Decoration is built up slowly using coloured slips, shellac resist, drawing and sponging, and is applied to the dry clay. The interior has a black vitreous engobe, providing a contrast to the decorated exterior. Peter has been a practising potter for over 40 years, in addition to writing and lecturing and he is Chair of the Northern Potters Association.
